Approx Measurements - 27" wide x 31" tall - Needs a space at least 30 inches wide to move freely! The components are the thickness of one credit card on edge to keep the sculpture light and moving in very soft air currents.
This mobile was designed for the mid century modern or art deco design lover. The design was inspired by a sculpture created by Jonathan Adler which was featured in Dwell Magazine, March 2014 page 94. Created with HDPE durable plastic material the components are the thickness of one credit card on edge. Stainless Steel wire and a ball bearing swivel make up the materials used to create this fun mobile sculpture.
THE STORY BEHIND THE ART
I quit my full time job January 2013 to create these beauties full time. Each morning I have the great pleasure and joy of creating these great mobiles. I begin by cutting the shapes and then carefully connecting them to the stainless steel wire. Then a perfect balancing act begins while I twist and bend the wire into perfectly balanced sculptures.
Upon completion, I sit back and watch the movement, making sure it flows nicely and is interesting to watch. Each one is made one by one, handmade with quality and love. The wire is stainless steel. They are very well made and should last for many many years and quite probably a lifetime. My influences are Timothy Rose, Bruce Gray and of course the master, Alexander Calder!
Thanks to the Mississippi Arts Commission for making the continuation of my work and progression of my artistic development flourish with their approval of a mini-grant in 2010 and 2011 (and now 2013)! I am very grateful!
