"Angel Oak Meets Cypress Trees" is a kinetic sculpture that transforms a static landscape into a meditative experience in motion. Created with hand-painted segments on Evolon and suspended by a delicately balanced stainless steel armature, the piece evokes the sweeping grace of the legendary Angel Oak and the vertical elegance of southern cypress trees.
As air currents breathe life into the sculpture, the segmented panels shift gently, briefly fracturing and reassembling the painted landscape—a visual metaphor for time, memory, and the shifting rhythms of nature. The autumnal tones of the oak scene contrast with the soft twilight hues of the cypress grove, offering viewers a quiet dialogue between rooted strength and ethereal movement.
This sculpture blurs the line between painting and sculpture, inviting viewers to pause, breathe, and witness how even stillness can move.
Evolon was a key component to bringing my visions of moving paintings to life. It is the only substrate I have found that meets the desire to use an acid free surface that doesn't warp when painted making it perfect for moving paintings
