Improvisation in Color – Hand Painted Kinetic Mobile Sculpture with Abstract Biomorphic Forms
Improvisation in Color is a kinetic sculpture inspired by the spontaneous energy of jazz and the intuitive language of abstract painting. Each hand-painted form feels like a musical phrase—rising, falling, and responding to the surrounding shapes in an ever-changing visual composition.
I painted every component with acrylic on my custom 420 lb cotton rag watercolor paper substrate and added expressive black linework that echoes the gestural marks found throughout my paintings. Suspended from hand-shaped stainless steel rods, the elements appear to float in space and move gently with the slightest current of air.
The palette combines luminous yellows, oranges, reds, blues, and soft pinks, creating a joyful interplay of color and rhythm. Every viewing angle reveals new relationships between the forms, making the sculpture feel alive and continuously unfolding.
This original kinetic mobile measures approximately 29 inches wide by 28 inches tall and arrives fully assembled with a professional ball bearing swivel for smooth, effortless rotation.
Perfect for collectors of abstract art, music lovers, and interiors seeking a sculptural focal point filled with movement, color, and visual poetry.
