This musical abstract painting began with spontaneous black ink linework flowing across the paper like improvised notation. I allowed the lines to move freely, responding to rhythm and gesture rather than planning a composition in advance. The drawing developed organically, much like a jazz improvisation unfolding phrase by phrase.
After the structure emerged, I added washes of violet, teal, and warm gold watercolor to highlight moments of visual “sound.” The colors move through the piece like melodic accents, while the negative space allows the linework to breathe and carry the rhythm forward.
