Intervals in Motion: Where Light Meets the Tide - large abstract expressionism acrylic painting by Carolyn Margaret Weir
This painting began as a study in rhythm—how color can move, pause, and begin again, much like music. I worked with a limited palette of cadmium yellow light, primary cyan, cadmium red light, Winsor violet, and white, allowing each color to shift and blend into something fluid and alive.
The sweeping current moves across the surface in layered, directional strokes, pulling the eye through the composition before it finds a place to rest in the softer green field. From there, the movement builds again—spiraling upward and outward—until it meets the horizon where light and water dissolve into one another.
This piece reflects my ongoing exploration of kinetic energy in a still format—painting movement the same way I construct my mobile sculptures: through balance, tension, and flow.
Created on canvas using acrylic paint, this work is part of an emerging series focused on color, motion, and visual rhythm.
