Riff in Motion — Original Hand-Painted Kinetic Mobile Sculpture
Riff in Motion — Original Hand-Painted Hanging Mobile
I have always been drawn to the rhythm created when color and movement meet. Riff in Motion began as an original acrylic painting filled with layered marks, wandering lines, and shifting passages of yellow, blue, turquoise, and green.
From that painting, I hand cut each individual component, allowing small fragments of the larger work to become paintings of their own. I then balanced the pieces along slender stainless steel rods, creating a mobile that changes its composition as it moves.
No two views are quite the same. A shape turns, a painted line disappears, another color comes forward, and the entire piece quietly rearranges itself in space. I think of my mobiles as moving paintings—artwork that isn’t confined to a single viewpoint or a fixed moment.
Riff in Motion measures approximately 33 inches tall by 22 inches wide. The painted components are made from a single original painting on heavyweight 420 lb cotton watercolor board, painted with acrylics and individually hand cut. The mobile is constructed and balanced by hand in my Natchez, Mississippi studio.
Because the painting and every component are created by hand, this is a one-of-a-kind original artwork. I think of these works as original moving paintings.
Designed for indoor display.
